Arrest Law-Breaker Lembit - It Would Be Wheely Good
So Lembit Opik, a man never afraid of a cheap publicity stunt, is going to flout the laws of the land and ride a segway from Parliament to the Department of Transport today. He is "challenging Ministers to have him arrested" - seemingly forgetting that it is actually police who arrest people and enforce the laws, not Government Ministers.
And I, for one, hope that Her Majesty's finest don't disappoint dear old Lemsip. I do wonder how far his spurious Focus leaflet inspired argument would get him once they have bundled him to the ground and slapped the handcuffs on?
Of course, in other parts of the world, police do sometimes use segways. For example the picture on the left is of a German policeman on patrol.
I think I have the perfect solution. Maybe Lembit should move to another country?
Problem solved.
(Update: Apparently Lembit had stencilled "Police" on the front of his Segway to "make a point" - perhaps he could also be charged with impersonating a police officer? Just a thought.)
