Oakley - Guilty As Charged

So hopefully you'll all be famliar with Ian Oakley now.

OK, here's a quick recap for those that missed it:

Ian was the inumerate Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Watford, who came a cropper when he was arrested on suspicion of writing poison pen letters and harassing political opponents. (He also once claimed on this blog that he did not think he would ever be interviewed by the police!)

Yes, that Ian Oakley.

Well it seems Ian is back in the news today after pleading guilty to five counts of criminal damage and two charges of harassment this morning. He has also asked for a further 68 charges, all of a similar nature, to be taken into account.

That's 75 offences including slashing tyres on the cars his rivals, criminal damage to some shutters, vile graffiti on the house of a local councillor, calling a local councillor a child molester, plus sending lesbian porn and making crude sexual suggestions to the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate anonymously.

I knew the Tories were desperate, but flipping heck, this is a shocker!

I wonder if David Cameron will want to come off his Cornish beach to make a statement to Radio One, or some such, about the incident? It is worth remembering that at the time Oakley was arrested, Cameron said:

"As I understand it, the candidate has resigned. We are going through some legal proceedings and so I don't think it would be right to comment further, but basically he has resigned as the candidate."

Well, your candidate has admitted his guilt now, so it's perfectly fine for you to comment further if you like.

Maybe instead of his Shadow Ministers spouting off to the rest of us about the dangers of lad's mags such as Zoo and Nuts, maybe they should try controlling Tory councillors who become PPCs and send vile pornography to their rivals before damaging their properties and reputations?

Just a thought.

Anyway, I hope you'll now believe me when I tell you that Watford is the heart of the political world. :-)

I personally know Ian and he is a decent guy. Its clear he must have had some kind of breakdown. this is VERY out of character. I haveknown Ian over 10yrs and he has NEVER shown a tendancy to behave this way.

Kerron, a quick check of your own blog would show that if "A Source Formally Close to the PM" had had his way, Ian Oakley would have been Labours problem rather than the Tories:

It wouldn't be the first time he's been totally wrong, trust me! ;-)
