Kerron and the Kilt
Did you have a Good Friday? You would have thought when your partner is a child of the manse that such religious holidays may be marked by some kind of religious solemnity. However, if your partner is Linsay what you should actually expect is to get dragged round shopping somewhere instead.
Of course, my views on shopping are well known but if you find yourself out in Glasgow with Linsay pre-wedding it is fair to assume (or fear greatly with every bone in your not so tiny body) that we are not just talking shopping. We are talking kilt shopping.
And here on the left is the photo you have probably all not been hoping to get a glimpse of - unless you work for a local newspaper and actually want to see a local politician in a skirt - me in a kilt.
It comes to something that when you buy a kilt (and all the trimmings like the jacket, sporran, socks) and it costs more than your bride's wedding dress.
My particular kilt, a Manx Laxey tartan, costs £100 more than a standard kilt because it is an "historic" tartan. I presume that this "historic" in the sense that:
a) No-one wears it anymore (this may suggest there is a reason attached to this).
b) Gullible people may pay £100 extra for the honour of wearing this.
c) It is older than the most well known Manx Tartan that I suspect was invented around 50 years ago for the purposes of impressing/fleecing tourists, and not for wearing in battle.
And a visit back to the kilt shop, invariably means another fitting trauma. Last time it was slightly unmasculine and awkward conversation about whether my fit was snug, whether my weight was likely to fluctuate and, essentially, whether my bum looked big in this. So this time I had my concerns.
But those concerns were completely unfounded. There was no awkward unmasculine conversation whatsoever with the gentleman assistant. No, instead he was happy to sing away to Elton John tunes and the Bee Gees in the background whilst giving my outfit the final tucks and tugs. Totally manly and totally fine.
And as we are all fully aware, I know everything there is to know about being totally masculine, so there. :-/
BTW, as an aside, if you look closely at the picture above you will see I have only one "flash" on.
But let's face it, one flash in my kilt is more than enough for anyone, isn't it. ;-)

Very smart but I prefer the traditional cream coloured socks.
