Were You Expecting Someone Else?

One of life's little ironies was cruelly averted today by me being asked to take part in the NCVO seminar earlier.

One of the little burdens that I have to carry around with me on a daily basis is that people approach me to do events/media/write articles when they haven't been lucky enough to get their hands on Alex Hilton (of Recess Monkey fame, but don't tell anyone!).

Normally I wouldn't mention this fact (after all it is nice to be considered at all), but had Alex agreed to do the seminar today he may well have had someone physically getting their hands on him - as I was joined by Nadine Dorries MP.

Now it is fair to say that Nadine is not Alex's biggest fan after he posted this article concerning her daughter - indeed here is Nadine's rebuttal (pointing out she is taking legal action against the Monkey). That may well have been the point to lay off, but that provoked Alex into posting this.

It's all got a bit Eamon and Frankee, hasn't it?

If Alex had have turned up it would certainly have been interesting. Who knows, maybe even as interesting as the seminar concerning "lobbying the brown inner circle".

Which, incidentally, Alex was also considered for. ;-)

Nadine also employed her daughter as a staff member in HOC last summer - doesnt that make her fair game? It does for most other Tory researchers!

She isn't taking legal action, she's just threatening to.

Number one rule of defamation chicken: people who have a good case do not threaten to take action, they take action.

Nadine employed Ms P Storm D on the national minimum wage I'll have you know and got the young gal's permission to tell us that on her award-winning (not) website.

Nadine has committed the idiocy of drawing attention to a fading story, of talking the talk, and of risking far worse trouble for herself with smears and insinuations that could be actionable whereas what Alex has done may be a little bit snide (or not) but not obviously defamation.

But anyway Kerron did Nads speak the expected gibberish or say anything remotely sensible?
