Is The Shadow Cabinet Biased To The South?
Following The Sun's incredible article today asking "Is Cabinet Biased to the North?", I wondered if we should apply the same logic to the obvious bias that is evident in the Shadow Cabinet. The map on the left shows you where all the constituencies are for the 27 Tory MPs who currently hold roles in the Shadow Cabinet.
As you can see, there are only 5 MPs in the Midlands (this may well count as "the North" to both The Sun and the Tories as these seats are north of Watford).
These are Owen Paterson (North Shropshire); Caroline Spelman (Meriden); Alan Duncan (Rutland & Melton) and Patrick McLoughlin (West Derbyshire).
In the area above this - which I am sure our friends would term "the generic North" (i.e. the area from Merseyside/Yorkshire & Humberside and up to Scotland) we have just 3 MPs.
These are David Davis (Haltemprice & Howden); George Osborne (Tatton) and William Hague (Richmond, Yorks).
There is of course just one MP in Scotland, David Mundell (Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweedale) and even he thinks the Tories are rubbish. Don't be surprised if he is got rid of with the rest of Scotland in due course.
The rest of the Tories Shadow Cabinet all have Southern English seats. All 18 of them. The vast majority of them have seats in the South East of England. Does this mean that they have a South Eastern bias?
You'd have to say by The Sun's reckoning there is an obvious Southern English bias - especially shocking that there are no representatives in Wales and only one in Scotland. Do you think they care?
Do you think that The Sun will run this story in their newspaper tomorrow?
What do you think?
I think it's about as likely as pigs flying, Page 3 being dropped due to an editorial decision or the Tories actually caring about public services. :-/

Most of them appear to be inland. Are they afraid of getting their feet wet?
David Davis (Haltemprice & Howden); George Osborne (Tatton) and William Hague (Richmond, Yorks).
That'll be the shadow Home Secretary, Chancellor and Foreign Secretary then . . . not exactly minor positions.
