Tories Campaigning For Our Souls?

When I heard the news this morning, I was convinced that they said:

"Tories, campaigning for arseholes."

No change there then.

I thought was a rather honest assessment of the Conservatives political outlook, but I have to be honest and say it's not really what I had expected to hear this morning (even on the BBC).

In fact the story refers to Michael Ancram's comments about Cameron's appraoch to the Tory Party. (Not that Ancram is a big player in the party, after all he was only the former Chairman.) The Tories rolled out another former Cabinet Minister to call the attacks "bizarre".

That's the problem for Cameron at the moment. His party is imploding. The old guard don't like the modernisation and distancing from Thatcherite values (see Ancram) and the new guard don't like the swings back to the right.

No wonder Cameron would rather the cheap PR of a head to head TV fight during an election than actually talk policy now.

Substance vs Spin. I think we can see a world of problems opening up for Dave and his mates.

The Marquess of Lothian hasn't been party chair for over six years and even when he was it wasn't the biggest of roles in a small pond. And Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party is the most pointless title this side of Shadow Secretary of State for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, having even less importance than the deputy leader of the Lib Dems.
