What Is The Inspiration For Party Animals?

So did you watch Party Animals last night? (The BBC's new political drama that is and not this one of the same name.)

A lot of political bloggers have been attacking how unrealistic the show is. I have to say I agree. Let's look at the main character from last night's show, Danny.

Danny is a researcher in his late 20s working for a Labour MP, his friends think he should have moved on a long time ago to a job with better pay and more recognition. He has thick rimmed glasses and overly long brown hair sticking out from behind his ears. He is a political blogger.

Just where do they get this inspiration from?

Danny is also the victim of gossip mongers on the Village Vermin political blog (a blog created by the show, but available on-line in real life). Just check this story out.

As I say, totally unrealistic.

Yes, Kerron, very coincidental.

But what you should be wondering is... does 'Danny' get the girl?

Yep, I did see it PragueTory!

What were you going to point out Chimpette (btw 1 post is enough, you don't have to say everything 3 times!). The coincidence in the Village Vermin story?

Sorry...don't know what happened there! I was going to post about the similarities between your good self and Danny.

But you don't have your own blog (more's the pity!).

Is there anything you'd like to add to my observations?

I've had a few people tell me that when they watched the prog they instantly thought of me. Not sure if that is a complement or not though!

Haven't watched it (There was a CLP meeting last night), but hope to catch a repeat. Must say though that when I first saw a photo of this guy I did think he reminded me of a certain researcher who I know fairly well ;)

It's an interesting theory. As the consultant on "Animals" I couldn't possibly confirm or deny. Danny was something of a Platonic ideal. Other characters were more direct lifts from real people: Sophie, the Tory journalist, for example, and a certain gay Tory researcher.

Does Danny get the girl? Well you'll have to wait and see.

I'm not sure whether it's a complement to be a "platonic ideal", or not. :-)

I know whether or not I get the girl by the end of the series, if that helps. ;-)
