The Rudest MP in Parliament?
There is something about Tories in lifts. It brings out their true colours. Rude Arrogant Tories. RATs.There was this incident, remember? And then there are regular examples of Tories not understanding how lifts work. But today was the perfect combo. A rude arrogant Tory not understanding how a lift works.
I give you Bill Cash MP.
You will remember that he is one of the very few people on this planet that I have met and have not liked. A remarkable feat. The reason for this is that he is consistently rude, arrogant and has in the past treated me incredibly badly when I have come across him - but I get the impression he treats most commoners that way, although I may be wrong.
Well this morning myself and two other members of staff were waiting for a lift in Portcullis House. When the lift arrived Bill Cash walked up and pushed past all three of us into the lift and then proceeded to push the button to try and stop us from getting in the lift with him.
Fortunately for us he was so inept he was pressing the button for the Ground Floor (where the lift already was), so we were able to get in the lift with him - which didn't please him. We then pressed the button for the top floor to go to our office. Mr Cash simply carried on muttering and pressing the Ground Floor button repeatedly.
The lift eventually started going up (when he had finally stopped pressing the Ground Floor button). And as it passed the 1st Floor Mr Cash blurted out "Oh Bloody Hell!". By the time we reached the top floor he was cursing "Oh for God's sake!".
Bill, if you want to get somewhere in a hurry, perhaps you could have walked the one flight of stairs you needed to get to your meeting. Or you could have not repeatedly pressed the wrong button in the lift. But your general attitude towards staff seems rude, arrogant and frankly a disgrace.
We all have to work in the same building, so how about giving us a bit of respect and not treating us like an underclass?
Unfortunately respect is a two-way street. And I had to chuckle when one of the other guys in the lift this morning (who is not in our office, incidentally) summarised the incident as he got out of the lift by saying "Wow, that guy is a c**k." Obviously I'd never condone such comments, but if you want to change people's perception of you Bill, you may well want to think about your future actions in and around the House. Especially towards staff.

Portcullis House is also useful for reminding yourself just why your politics are what they are: last week I was stood near the door that leads to Norman Shaw and felt my blood pressure rising as, in order of horrendousness, Sarah Teather, Clare Short and then David Cameron passed me one by one. Cameron even smiled at me and said hello. Ugh.
If that is enough to get your blood pressure going, God help you when Galloway returns!
